The 1887 Society

Tradition

The year was 1887, a time of horse-and-buggy house calls, surgery that was perilous and babies born at home.  When an epidemic struck the city of Long Branch, local businessmen rented four tiny rooms over a Broadway store still remembered as Arnold's Delicatessen and what would eventually become Monmouth Medical Center was born. The community supported the flourishing hospital throughout the years with a report of the Women's Long Branch Auxilary making gifts of supplies in 1889.

The 1887 Society was established to recognize our most generous donors' ongoing commitment to quality health care.  The early auxilary set the stage for future community support which continues the legacy of caring and helping to amke possible the advances that keep the Medical Center at the forefront of health care.
