The Cardiac Laboratory
Monitoring The Health of Your Heart
732-923-5000, ext. 31297
Your heart is an organ that beats more than 100,000 times a day and pumps blood throughout your body. Your blood carries oxygen, which is needed by your heart and other muscles and organs to stay alive. Monmouth Medical Center's Cardiac Laboratory offers state-of-the-art diagnostic services to monitor the health of this muscular pump and provide your doctor with the information needed to determine if a heart problem exists.
The Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory offers a full range of noninvasive cardiac testing, including echocardiography, both transthoracic and transesophageal, tilt table testing, and stress testing. Both exercise and pharmacological stress testing is offered, with options for nuclear or stress echocardiography imaging. Twenty-four hour holter monitors, ambulatory blood pressure monitors, event monitors, and signal-averaged electrocardiograms are also available for the diagnosis of cardiac problems.
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

Chest Pain Center and Elective/Emergent PCI(Percutaneous Coronary Intervention)
732-923-5000, ext. 31297
As part of a national effort to reduce the number of heart-related deaths, Monmouth Medical Center recently joined a distinguished group of acute care hospitals across the United States to attain national accreditation as a Chest Pain Center. Monmouth was the first facility in Monmouth County to receive this esteemed designation. Through its Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Monmouth offers full service diagnostic cardiac catheterizations; life-saving emergent angioplasty for acute ST elevation myocardial infarction, and elective angioplasty through the Atlantic C-Port program.
Important Components of a Chest Pain Center
This important accreditation is designed to improve performance in caring for patients with acute coronary syndromes. Monmouth earned the highly regarded designation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers after successfully completing a rigorous accreditation process. Chest pain centers provide a comprehensive management strategy for the evaluation, triage and appropriate treatment of chest pain patients by providing a facility where patients come in at the earliest symptom(s), are evaluated in a calm environment and receive prompt, appropriate treatment in accordance with national guidelines.
The Chest Pain Center designation is the latest in the continual evolution of our cardiac services to provide the most-complete roster of services for our cardiac patients. We have been successfully performing emergency angioplasties for over two years, and we are proud to be one of a select group of New Jersey hospitals without a cardiac surgery program to offer this lifesaving treatment. Since June of this year we have been successfully performing elective angioplasties on patients enrolled in the nationwide C Port program. We are one of only 9 hospitals in New Jersey without a cardiac surgery program, to be granted permission by the state to participate in this program.
Important Points about Emergency and Elective Angioplasty
Patients no longer have to be transferred to another facility to receive this advanced care — it’s available right here. Emergent angioplasty allows for the timely delivery of state-of-the-art cardiovascular care to our large patient population. It also ensures continuity of care and maximizes patient and family comfort.
Most recently, Monmouth was approved to offer non-emergency angioplasty through the Atlantic C-Port Registry. Hospitals accepted into the study are permitted to perform interventional cardiac procedures such as coronary angioplasty and stenting on a select patient population without having on-site cardiac surgical services.
