Monmouth Medical Center,  a 527-bed community teaching hospital, is home to The Children’s Hospital.  Monmouth treats nearly 20,000 adult and pediatric inpatients and performs more than 13,000 surgeries annually. Monmouth handles 370,000 patient visits through its many outpatient departments and ambulatory services, including 46,000 patients who receive acute care through the Emergency Department and Pediatric Emergency Department. The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center

As a regional leader dedicated to children’s health, The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center offers the highest level of pediatric care for newborns to adolescents, including leading-edge treatment and specialized expertise that only a comprehensive children’s hospital can provide.. Here you’ll discover a child-friendly, family-focused approach to every aspect of care and a dedication to medical excellence that sets us apart.

The Regional Newborn Center is uniquely equipped to meet the needs of infants born too early or too small, or who require special care or surgery. Monmouth opened the Regional Newborn Center in 1968, becoming the first hospital in New Jersey and the first community hospital in the country to establish a newborn intensive care unit, and today, it is the region’s busiest state-designated Level III neonatal intensive care unit. Monmouth's 26,000-square-foot Mary Stavola Children's Pavilion is the setting for comprehensive care for children from infancy to adolescence, and Monmouth performs the second-highest number of pediatric surgeries in the state — nearly 2,000 inpatient and same-day procedures each year. More than 140 (?) highly qualified pediatric specialists in 30 subspecialties possess the experience, knowledge and technology needed to provide the health care needs of every child. Pediatric subspecialists provide a variety of subspecialty services for children with special needs or chronic illnesses, such as thyroid dysfunction, diabetes, neurological disorders, asthma and other respiratory problems. The Center for Disorders of Insulin and Metabolism specializes in the treatment of diabetes, thyroid conditions and hormone deficiencies in infants, children and adolescents and offers a pediatric obesity program that provides a blame-free, supportive environment to help obese children and their families adopt healthier lifestyles. The Pediatric Pulmonary Program offers the most-advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities to evaluate infants, children and adolescents with acute and chronic pulmonary disorders and is the only facility in New Jersey and one of only 26 centers in the world with equipment to perform advanced pulmonary testing on infants and toddlers. The Pediatric Gastroenterology Program offers New Jersey’s only support group for children with Irritable Bowel Disease.  The Valerie Fund Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders provides a multidisciplinary approach that combines state of the art medical and psychosocial care to children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders.

 

Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth

The Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center stands at the forefront of providing the most extensive array of highly advanced cancer services, delivered by a team of specialists in a caring and supportive environment. For nearly 40 years, Monmouth Medical Center’s leadership role in oncology services has been broadened through the ongoing expansion of state-of-the-art programs and technologies offered in all areas of cancer prevention, detection and treatment. The center’s Institute for Advanced Radiation Oncology has captured the worldwide spotlight for its pioneering role in the delivery of state-of-the-art cancer therapy, including the most progressive Image Guided Radiation Therapy modules, including TomoTherapy — the most advanced and integrated cancer treatment system available. A revolutionary way to treat cancer with radiation — combining precise 3-D imaging from computerized tomography (CT scanning) with highly targeted radiation beams — TomoTherapy is available at just a handful of hospitals in the nation. Multidisciplinary services of the Leon Hess Cancer Center include the Bernard Fromkin Oncology and Special Care Unit and a host of outpatient oncology services, including the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center, Patricia Burton High Risk Colorectal Cancer Program, David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center, Valerie Fund Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, Lung Cancer Center and Head and Neck Cancer Program. Today Monmouth is among just one-fifth of all U.S. hospitals with cancer programs accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as a "teaching hospital cancer center" — the group's highest designation. Monmouth is a clinical research affiliate of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state's only site chosen by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for its coveted designation as a clinical cancer center.

 

 

Surgical Services

For more than 60 years, Monmouth Medical Center has been a leader in surgical services, earning a statewide reputation for excellence in the field. Throughout its history, the hospital’s highly skilled team of surgeons has quickly adopted the latest surgical innovations — and this pioneering spirit set the stage for bringing the da Vinci® S Surgical System — the next generation of minimally invasive surgeryto the region. Today, The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery at Monmouth Medical Center has brought to the central New Jersey region cutting-edge surgical treatment options for morbid obesity, severe heartburn, benign and malignant colon and kidney disease, and a host of other disorders, Monmouth became the first hospital in Monmouth and Ocean counties to implement the next generation of minimally invasive surgery with the da Vinci® S Surgical System. For same-day surgery, the Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center provides a full spectrum of services using the most modern technology available. Designed to accommodate the unique needs of the youngest patients and their parents, the facility includes a full array of amenities specifically designed for children, including a full-time board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist, private pre- and post-operative rooms, a playroom and Child Life Services. 

 

Today, The Institue for Advanced Surgical Technologies at Monmouth Medical Center has brought to the central New Jersey region cutting-edge surgical treatment options for morbid obesity, severe heartburn, benign and malignant colon and kidney disease, and a host of other disorders. And its Advanced Reconstructive Surgery program is the only one of its kind — offering a multidisciplinary approach to complex reconstructive surgery.

 

 

The Cline/ D’Onofrio Emergency Services Pavilion

Monmouth’s Cline/ D’onofrio Emergency Services Pavilion is led by a team of board-certified emergency medicine physicians and consistently ranked among the top 10 ERs in the state and among the top 10 percent in the nation for patient satisfaction. Monmouth’s Emergency Department offers comprehensive care to the acutely and chronically ill. The hospital’s Emergency Department — which handles more than 46,000 annual visits — also offers a dedicated pediatric emergency department led by physicians board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine and a team of specially trained nurses who are certified in pediatric advanced life that provides an environment that is physically more appealing to the children who comprise about one-third of the hospital’s emergency volume. Additionally, The Pavilion’s Express Care Center gives patients faster access to treatment for minor emergencies and health problems.

 

Monmouth Medical Center recently joined a distinguished group of acute care hospitals across the United States to attain national accreditation as a Chest Pain Center. Chest pain centers provide a comprehensive management strategy for the evaluation, triage and appropriate treatment of chest pain patients by providing a facility where patients come in at the earliest symptom, are evaluated in a calm environment and receive prompt, appropriate treatment in accordance with national guidelines. Through its Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Monmouth offers full-service diagnostic cardiac catheterizations; life-saving emergent angioplasty for acute ST elevation myocardial infarction, and elective angioplasty through the Atlantic C-Port program.  Monmouth also offers a Stroke Center that provides the highest level of patient care through a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses acute stroke management and long-term rehabilitation. The center is committed to providing an integrative plan of care for stroke patients and a seamless delivery of the best possible care.

 

 

Women’s Services

The focus of The Eisenberg Family Center at Monmouth is on the mother, baby and family — together. With more than 4,000 births annually, Monmouth has the highest number of deliveries in Monmouth and Ocean counties and the fourth highest in the state. The Scire Family Baby Nursery within The Eisenberg Family Center at Monmouth offers the latest technology to support the highest quality infant care. Monmouth Medical Center’s Antenatal Testing Center serves as an outreach center to other area hospitals in providing genetic counseling services that help prospective parents determine if they are at risk of having a child with a birth defect. Monmouth's Women’s Services’ physicians are certified in such subspecialties as maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, gynecologic oncology and uro-gynecology. The Center for Continence and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery offers a full range of services used in the diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction.

 

Committed to meeting the breast health care needs of all women, the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center is the region’s only facility to offer a multidisciplinary approach to both well and cancer breast care. The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center provides a comfortable and supportive setting in which all outpatient breast health care services are found in one convenient location. Weekly multidisciplinary team meetings are held where the breast center’s superbly qualified experts,   including breast radiologists experienced in both film-screen and digital mammography, breast and reconstructive surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists and pathologists review cases and treatment options..

 

Cardiac Services

Monmouth has developed a center of excellence in cardiac care, with a comprehensive array of services including a Cardiac Laboratory, full-service Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, emergent angioplasty, an elective angioplasty program and the Joel Opatut Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program. The department provides a full range of services — from the minute patients walk through Monmouth's doors with the first signs of a heart attack to their recovery and rehabilitation. It also provides extensive educational and screening outreach services in the community. Each year, the hospital provides more than 1,600 cardiac-related screening tests in the community. 

 

Radiology

In Radiology, Monmouth was the first hospital in Monmouth and Ocean counties to introduce uterine fibroid embolization, an interventional radiology procedure that shrinks fibroid tumors by blocking their blood supply. Monmouth also was the first hospital in Monmouth County to offer the latest in Dexa scan imaging — a procedure used in assessing bone mineral density for the detection of osteoporosis — and digital chest radiography, which produces improved images and reduces radiation exposure to patients. The department is equipped with the most-advanced computed tomography (CT) imaging system, providing the area’s first coronary scoring program for the early detection of heart disease, and Monmouth also offers state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and its off-site imaing center, Shrewsbury Diagnostic Imaging Services, offers state-of-the-art modalities in PET/CT Scan and one of the only open 1.5Tesla MRIs in the region. And in another diagnostic breakthrough, Monmouth has established the region’s only colorectal physiology center for diseases and disorders of the colon, rectum and anus.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), a new treatment option for certain liver and lung cancer patients, was introduced at Monmouth Medical Center, and vertebroplasty, a procedure that offers a 95 percent chance of significant pain relief from osteoporotic spinal fractures, were introduced to the central New Jersey region by Monmouth’s interventional radiology team.

 

Behavioral Health Services

In 1950, Monmouth Medical Center unveiled Pollak Mental Health Services, the first outpatient mental health clinic in the county, and today the outpatient service offers a full range of behavioral health services. Monmouth has the largest psychiatric program in the county. Monmouth’s recently expanded Psychiatric Emergency Screening Service (PESS) is the designated such service for Monmouth County, and Children's Crisis Intervention Service is the area's only state-designated program for the inpatient treatment of children and adolescents with acute emotional, behavioral or psychiatric problems.

 

Specialty Outpatient Service

Monmouth offers a host of outpatient programs providing state-of-the-art care for a number of complex conditions, including Monmouth’s recently expanded Sleep Disorders Center, which provides spacious, homelike accommodations for comprehensive evaluation, diagnostic testing and treatment of sleep disorders. Additionally, the Wound Treatment Center at Monmouth offers the latest treatment options for chronic and non-healing wounds — and one of the best healing rates among wound care centers in the United States. pecializing in memory disorders, Monmouth’s Geriatric Health Center provides comprehensive evaluations for patients who exhibit signs of dementia and ongoing social support services to help patients and family members ease the burden of dementia. The Palliative Care and Pain Program at Monmouth Medical Center focuses on providing medical, emotional and spiritual care to patients with cancer and other serious illnesses and their families — both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. And the Center for Arthritis and Rheumatological Conditions brings together an outstanding team of specialists to focus on the diagnosis, treatment and management of more than 100 types of arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and joint-related and soft tissue disorders. 

Monmouth’s Sleep Disorders Center, which provides spacious, homelike accommodations for comprehensive evaluation, diagnostic testing and treatment of sleep disorders, is the only facility in Monmouth and Ocean counties to be accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

 

 

Community Health Education 

For the promotion of wellness and the prevention of illness, the  Community Health Education department sponsors an array of health programs for the general public. In addition to programs on smoking cessation and stress management, there are courses that provide instruction in standard first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and a continuing lecture series features experts in their fields who address current health issues. Monmouth also hosts a series of programs geared to parents-to-be, grandparents and even young siblings.  In addition to classes that prepare women for childbirth, others focus on baby care, prenatal and postpartum exercise and adoptive parenting.

 

Health Link Physician/Dentist Referral Services

The Link is Monmouth's physician/dentist referral service, offered free to the community. Telephone calls from the community are handled by members of the Link staff, who match people with the right doctors or services based on their special needs for insurance coverage, office hours, location, language requirements — and most importantly, their health care needs.
